The Maspalomas beach is famous for its Lighthouse. Its a historical monument which has been viewed by many tourists and can be found in the center of Gran Canaria. Until late 50s it constituted the only center of the coast between dunes, sea and sky. Here we find a Saharan landscape that was illuminated by this old lighthouse, informing of warnings and sheltering boats and travelers of all kinds in those times. The Lighthouse has always been a guide, reference and symbol that covered the area from the Arinaga lighthouse to the Punta de Castillete lighthouse (in the northwest of the island).
Nowadays here we find an information point, a small handicraft store and, above all, a museum and a cultural space. Since 1890 it has been involved in caring for the coast as a guide, illuminating the Atlantic.
Vigilant and grandiose stands the Maspalomas Lighthouse located at the southern end of Maspalomas Beach, in San Bartolomé de Tirajana and on one of the most visited coastlines in Europe. It was declared in 2005, by the Government of the Canary Islands, «Asset of Cultural Interest» in the category of Historical Monument.
